Moving is what we do for a living. It turns out to be what several Denton nonprofits need most. A family leaving a shelter needs a truck. A survivor leaving a dangerous house needs a crew that works quickly and without drawing attention. A food pantry needs the groceries that otherwise go in a dumpster on move day.
Who We Support
Three organizations in Denton County get our trucks, our crews, and our sponsorship dollars when they are not on a customer's job.
Denton County Friends of the Family
Free services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault across Denton County. We move survivors and their families, and we sponsor the fundraising events that pay for that work.
Giving Grace
A Denton nonprofit working on family homelessness. We are one of its Advocate Business Partners, and we move families out of shelter and into homes of their own.
Move For Hunger
Unopened food left behind on move day goes to a local pantry instead of the trash. In 2024 the food our crews collected added up to 1,000 meals.
The partnerships below are not new. Brown Box Movers opened in Denton on January 1, 2009, and each of these relationships has been built up over years of working in the same county.
Denton County Friends of the Family
Denton County Friends of the Family provides free services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. That includes emergency shelter, individual and group counseling, advocacy, transitional housing, and prevention education in schools and across the community. The organization also operates the Building Hope Family Justice Center.
We support the work in two ways. We move survivors and their families, which often means short notice, tight timing, and discretion about where a household is going. We also sponsor DCFOF fundraising events, which is how a good share of those free services get paid for.
If you need help right now
Denton County Friends of the Family runs a crisis line 24 hours a day. You do not have to be in immediate danger to call, and the services are free.
24-hour crisis line: 940-382-7273 or 800-572-4031

Giving Grace works on family homelessness in Denton County from its offices on Teasley Lane, and its current project is a family shelter built to house up to 20 families at a time. Brown Box Movers is one of its Advocate Business Partners, a relationship that now goes back several years.
The practical side is straightforward. When a family leaves a shelter for a place of their own, that is still a move. It still needs a truck, a crew, and somebody to carry a couch up a flight of stairs. That is the part we take, alongside financial support for the events and sponsorships at givinggrace.org.
Food That Would Otherwise Be Thrown Away
Almost every household move leaves food behind. Half a pantry of cans, pasta, and rice that nobody wants to pack and nobody wants to throw away, so it ends up in the trash anyway. Move For Hunger is a national nonprofit that fixes that by adding one step to the move itself, and Brown Box Movers is part of the network.
In 2024, food collected this way through our crews added up to 1,000 meals. Across the whole network, more than 90 million pounds of food has reached food banks since 2009. The three steps below are the entire process, and none of them cost you anything.
Why a Moving Company Does This
There is no complicated reason. We own trucks, we employ people who move heavy things for a living, and those are the two things these organizations run short of. A shelter can find volunteers and it can raise money, but a crew that can empty a house safely in an afternoon is harder to come by.
The sponsorship side matters too. Free counseling, a crisis line that answers at three in the morning, and a shelter bed are all paid for by somebody, and in Denton a good share of that comes from local businesses buying tables at fundraisers. We would rather be one of them.
Where We Show Up
All three organizations work in Denton County, which is also where most of our customers are. The overlap is not a coincidence. A moving company learns a lot about a county by spending seventeen years driving across it, and these are the groups we kept running into. Our areas we serve page lists the cities our crews cover.
Donate Food on Move Day
Almost every household move leaves food behind. Half a pantry of cans, pasta, and rice that nobody wants to pack and nobody wants to throw away, so it ends up in the trash anyway. Move For Hunger adds one step to the move and sends it to a food bank instead. It costs you nothing.
Brown Box Movers was named a Best of Denton finalist by the Denton Record-Chronicle in both 2025 and 2026. The program is now in its 33rd year, and finalists are chosen by reader vote at bestofdenton.com. The company was also voted Best of Texas 2026 by The Guide to Texas, and it has been BBB accredited and family owned since January 1, 2009.
Being a finalist two years running in a town the size of Denton means repeat customers and neighbors put our name down on a ballot. That is the part we care about. You can read what those customers wrote on our reviews page.
Working With Other Local Businesses
Community involvement is not only nonprofits. Customers regularly ask us who to call for a roof, a floor, or a repair before a house goes on the market, and we would rather give a name we trust than shrug.
Those recommendations live on our preferred vendors page, and we add to it as we work with more local trades.
Questions About Our Community Work
Can I donate food during my move?
Yes. Set aside unopened, non-perishable items and tell us at the survey or on move day. The crew takes it from there at no cost to you.
Does the donation change my estimate?
No. Your binding written estimate covers your household. The food goes on the truck separately and is not part of the price.
We are a Denton nonprofit. Can Brown Box Movers help?
Call the office at (972) 338-4120 and tell us what you need. We cannot take on everything, but we would rather hear about the work than miss it.
