The Slow Part of the Drive

The first 200 miles go quickly. The last stretch, from Georgetown through Round Rock into central Austin, is where I-35 tends to back up, and TxDOT’s long-running reconstruction of the corridor through the city keeps lane layouts changing. None of that affects what you pay. Your estimate is binding, so time lost near Ben White Boulevard or the river crossing is not added to your bill.

Know Your Austin Address Before the Survey

Austin destinations vary more than people expect. A few questions about the new place make the survey more accurate.

West of MoPac

Westlake, Lakeway, Bee Cave, and Dripping Springs have plenty of steep, winding drives. Find out whether a full-size moving truck can park near the front door, and mention it during the survey.

Downtown, Mueller, and East Austin

Condo and apartment towers usually require a reserved freight elevator and a booked move-in time. Get the building’s rules in writing as soon as you have a lease or a contract.

Round Rock to Kyle

Round Rock, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Leander, and Georgetown to the north, and Kyle and Buda to the south, are popular with families who want a bigger yard. Expect newer subdivisions and HOA rules on where a truck can park.
