Brown Box Movers is a family-owned company that has been moving North Texas households since 2009.

The Route Up US-287

The shortest path from Denton to Denver mostly skips the interstates. US-287 runs northwest through Decatur, Wichita Falls, Vernon, and Childress to Amarillo. From there it continues across the Oklahoma Panhandle at Boise City and into eastern Colorado through Springfield and Lamar. Near Limon it meets I-70, which carries you the last 90 miles into Denver. By car the trip takes about 11 to 12 hours.

That is a long way for furniture to travel, which is why the way your shipment moves matters. With us, it is the only load on the truck. It is not combined with other households, held at a hub, or moved onto another trailer somewhere in the Panhandle. The movers who load in Denton unload in Colorado.

Weather on the High Plains

The stretch between Amarillo and Limon is open, high country where snow and strong winds can arrive any time from October through April. Summer and early fall are the easiest months for this route. If you are moving in winter, plan your own travel with some flexibility in case of a storm, and keep an eye on Colorado road conditions during the week of your move.

Preparing Your Home for Altitude

Denver sits at 5,280 feet. Air pressure is lower than in Denton, and sealed liquids can leak when the pressure changes. A few habits help:

  • Tighten the caps on shampoo, cleaners, and cooking oils, and bag them before they go in a box
  • Pack opened bottles upright and fill the gaps so nothing tips
  • Keep medications and anything you need for the first days with you instead of on the truck

Boxes built for a 760-mile trip also need to be stronger than boxes for a move across town. If you want us to handle all of it, or just the kitchen and the fragile items, see our full and partial packing options.

Where Denton Families Settle on the Front Range

  • Central Denver: Washington Park, Highland, and Congress Park, where older bungalows often have narrow stairs and small doorways
  • The south suburbs: Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, and Castle Rock
  • The west side: Lakewood, Golden, and Arvada, closer to the foothills
  • East and north: Aurora, Westminster, Thornton, and Broomfield
  • Boulder County: about 30 miles northwest of downtown Denver

If you are moving into an older Denver home, measure the stairwell and front door before move day and mention any tight spots during the survey. Large pieces may need to be disassembled to fit, and our crew takes apart and reassembles beds, sectionals, and dining sets as part of the job.

If the Colorado House Is Not Ready

Interstate moves often leave a gap between move-out and move-in. If you have to leave Denton before you can get into the Denver home, we can hold your household in our Denton storage facility until delivery is scheduled. It stays with our company the whole time, with no hand-off to a third-party warehouse.

A Price That Stays Fixed for 760 Miles

Long distance quotes based on weight can change once the truck is loaded and weighed. Ours do not. We survey your home in person or by video, list what is moving, and give you a binding written estimate built from that inventory. There is no reweigh at delivery and no adjustment after loading. Read more about how our long distance moving service works from survey to delivery.

Vehicle transport is not something we offer. If you are flying to Denver and need your car shipped, book it with an auto carrier. Denton is close to DFW International Airport, and we coordinate pickup and delivery windows around your flight plans.
