Brown Box Movers quotes this trip the same way we quote a thousand-mile one, from an inventory, in writing, before the truck is loaded.

Why a Two-Hour Move Is Not a Local Move

Most local moves are billed by the hour. That works when the truck travels fifteen minutes across town. Add two hours of highway each way and an hourly clock turns into a number nobody can predict, because it now depends on traffic through Decatur, how long the loading dock takes, and whether the crew hits construction on the way back.

A binding written estimate removes all of that. We survey the house, list what is going, and give you a figure. The drive, the loading time, and the unload are inside that figure. There is no reweigh at the end and no adjustment once your belongings are on the truck.

Straight Up US-287

The route leaves the Denton area heading northwest on US-287, passing Decatur, Alvord, Bowie, and Bellevue before reaching Wichita Falls. It is a divided four-lane highway nearly the whole way and takes a little under two hours by car. Oil field traffic is common on this stretch, which slows things in places but changes nothing about your price.

This is the same highway our crews take farther northwest. If your move is continuing past the Red River country, our Denton to Amarillo movers page covers the next leg of US-287.

Sheppard Air Force Base and MSU

Sheppard Air Force Base anchors the north side of the city and runs one of the largest technical training operations in the Air Force, which means a continuous cycle of arrivals and departures. Midwestern State University brings a second rhythm, with housing turning over around the academic calendar in August and again in May.

If you are moving on orders and handling the arrangements yourself, ask your transportation office what documentation it needs before booking. A written binding figure is easier to submit than an estimate that can change after delivery.

Around the City

  • Country Club and Tanglewood: established neighborhoods with mature trees and wider lots
  • Faith Village: postwar homes near the center of town
  • The far southwest: newer construction out toward Kell Freeway
  • Burkburnett and Iowa Park: smaller towns within a short drive, popular with Sheppard families
  • Lake Arrowhead: properties southeast of the city, some with long or unpaved drives

Rural addresses outside the city sometimes have gravel drives or gates that a loaded truck has to work around. Mention it during the survey so the plan accounts for it.

Weather Worth Watching

North Texas spring storms reach this part of the state with some force, and late winter can bring ice to US-287 that closes lanes for a day. Summer heat here regularly outpaces Denton’s. None of it changes your price, but if you are driving up to meet the truck it is worth checking conditions the morning of a move between December and April.

What the Day Looks Like

  1. The crew arrives in Denton, walks the house with you, and pads and wraps the furniture.
  2. Beds, sectionals, and dining tables come apart for transport.
  3. Everything loads onto a truck carrying only your household.
  4. The same crew drives up US-287 and unloads at the new address.
  5. Furniture is rebuilt and set in the rooms you choose.

Packing is optional and can cover the whole house or just the kitchen and the fragile items. We do not move vehicles, so a car or a boat headed to Wichita Falls needs its own carrier.
